The Kashmir Files (movie review)

YZEN says : MUST watch. Keep a strong heart ! 4 stars ****

This is not a movie. It's a slice of history that is smacked right into our face. A story in the annals of history that has not been told to us till date. It has been quietly swept under the carpet and as we all live in our cosy, comfortable life, we have largely chosen to ignore it. Mind you, this history is not from ancient times. It is not from the era of Ramayana, Mahabharata or even Shivaji, Mughal or the British era. This is a real incident docudrama of an time when most of us were in late teens or older.

The movie makes no apologies in getting the brutality of the atrocities, staring at you and almost forcing you to reach deep down and explore your soul. Self conscience is torn to shreds and one keeps on wondering why this story was never spoken about in this dimension & at this level before !

The making of the film, right from the approach, to the story, to editing, directing & acting is several notches above any regular mainstream cinema. A sublime piece of art which in Indian context could be compared to Schindler's List.

My only regret about this movie is that it does not attempt to balance or show the other side of the story. What happened in the late 80's that fueled a genocide of unprecedented scale ? Why are there people who still want to "brainwash" the youth ? What is their motive & ideology behind it ?

There is a very pertinent dialogue in the movie ... "The Jews have ensured that the whole world never forgets the Holocaust". Similarly, in this case, why has India forgotten and has forced the others to forget this dark night in the history of modern India ??? Will the sons of the soil, ever be able to go back to their homes ? What is JUSTICE ?
