Pushpa : The Rise - Movie Review

Pushpa The Rise : Movie Review

It took me 4 instalments over 3 days to finish a 3 hour movie ! Simply goes on to say that I did not find it to be an edge of the seat, non stop entertainer.

Let me be fair here .. most of us who are / were die hard fans of Amitabh’s (Coolie, Deewar, Shaki, Don … ) or even the Mumbai masses who are Sallu bhai’s fans, get goose bump moments when AB says “Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi ….” Or Sallu’s “ … body mein itne chedd karenge …. “ ! Similarly, Allu Arjun fans would dance in the aisle at his larger than life persona, his audacity to take his more evil & established bad guys, the swag and the dialogues ! Unfortunately, I have not watched any of Allu Arjun’s movies earlier & hence it was just any other over the top gangsta flick for me.

The story is nothing new & it has been explored in many a movie – the rise of the underdog. Pushpa’s character is built over 3 hours & despite all the buzz over the social media, its just another run of the mill movie. Pushpa taking on the mafia dons who have made it their fiefdom for decades is mundane, the romance with Srivalli is best of 2 songs, a Bhojpuri type item number has oomph but does not help the story and the special effects VFX looked very rushed and even openly glaring. One waits for some kind of final confrontation but when that opportunity comes, it does not have the impact and fizzles out.

Pushpa: The Rise already has a part 2 in the making and I am hoping that some aspects of these glitches are addressed and at my end, I will make an effort to watch more of Allu Arjun’s movies, so that I can whistle to some of the … “fire hai mein .” dialogues !

Yzen Says : 3.5 stars - The Allu Arjun Swag, his lop sided walking style, the dialogue delivery & screen presence is awesome. Both the songs (Srivalli & Samme') which have gone insanely viral on social media are extremely likeable at first watch itself
